Appoquinimink School District

“The fastest growing school district in the State”
Box 4010, 118 South Sixth Street
Odessa, DE 19730-4010

The Appoquinimink School District (ASD), located in southern New Castle County, Delaware, serves more than 5,700 students in grades K-12. The district includes the communities of Middletown, Odessa and Townsend, as well as areas to the north and south.

At Appoquinimink, students, parents, educators and the community share a common vision about high achievement, a fact which has helped their students earn one of the best academic records in the state. The district's six schools earned a total of four “Superior” and two “Commendable” ratings from the Delaware Department of Education in the Fall of 2001.

Considered a small to mid-size district, Appoquinimink is situated in the heart of the state’s fastest growing region for new home construction. Thanks to the passage of successful voter referendums in 1998 and 2000, the district has kept pace with the growth by remodeling and renovating every school in the system, including approving funding for the construction of two new elementary schools. The first new school, Olive B. Loss Elementary, opened in Fall 2002, followed by a second new elementary school, Brick Mill Elementary in Fall 2003.

The district offers a traditional small-town atmosphere in a location that provides easy access to major business and entertainment centers. Residents are just 30 minutes from Delaware’s largest city (the corporate headquarters for Fortune 500 Companies DuPont, MBNA and AstraZeneca), one hour from the beach, and minutes from nationally recognized colleges and universities.
